Diagnostic Assessment Services

A diagnostic assessment helps us build a clear understanding of your child's strengths, challenges and daily experiences. It brings together developmental history, standardised assessment tools, sensory modulation assessment and professional observations to explore how your child manages the activities that matter to them. This process allows us to develop a detailed picture of their presentation, participation and the areas where support may be needed.

Our aim is to offer a supportive and accessible pathway that helps your child feel regulated, confident and able to take part in everyday life, and to provide clear, practical guidance that supports them across home, school and the wider community.

DIAGNOSTIC SUPPORT

Types of Assessment

Autism Assessment

A multidisciplinary assessment that brings together developmental history, autism-specific tools, sensory modulation assessment and psychological input to build a clear picture of your child's presentation. It identifies strengths, areas of need and the functional impact on daily life, offering tailored recommendations that support meaningful progress at home, in school and across the wider community.

Dyspraxia Assessment

A thorough, child centred assessment focusing on motor coordination, daily function and participation across settings. It explores how your child plans and carries out movements, identifies strengths, emerging challenges and the functional impact on everyday tasks, offering tailored recommendations that support meaningful progress at home, in school and across the wider community.

Support After Assessment

A supportive post-assessment process is an essential part of every diagnostic pathway and helps families understand how a child’s strengths and challenges influence daily life across home, school and the wider community. It provides space to explore key areas such as communication, interaction, sensory needs and emotional wellbeing, offering clarity on how these factors shape participation, confidence and behaviour. This stage ensures that families receive meaningful guidance at a pace that feels manageable, making it easier to process information and consider next steps.

Therapists bring together the findings from the assessment, using observations, standardised tools and insights from parents, carers and education staff to explain what the results mean in day to day terms. The review outlines strengths, areas of need and the functional impact of differences, followed by tailored recommendations and practical strategies that support meaningful progress and help your child thrive.

What to Expect

To help you feel prepared and informed, here is an overview of what to expect from the assessment process.

Before the Assessment

You will receive forms that help your therapist understand your child's needs, and these must be returned at least two weeks before the appointment. Your therapist will review this information to plan the most suitable assessment for your child, and reasonable adjustments can be made where needed.

During the Assessment

You and your child will attend one of the OT4me clinics, where standardised assessments are carried out in a fun and playful way. Your child may also use the therapy equipment while the therapist observes their engagement, sensory responses and functional abilities across a range of activities.

After the Assessment

Your therapist will prepare a detailed report based on the package selected. Silver, Gold and Tribunal packages also include a training video to support your understanding of the findings. You will be offered a 30 minute feedback call to go through the report, discuss next steps and ask any questions.
