Dyspraxia Assessment
A dyspraxia (developmental coordination disorder) assessment helps build a clear and comprehensive understanding of your child's motor coordination, planning and sensory processing. Specialist occupational therapists combine developmental history with standardised motor coordination tools, sensory modulation assessment and observations across home and school to explore how dyspraxia affects day-to-day activities. This joined-up approach explains strengths and needs, the impact on participation, and provides practical recommendations for support at home, school and in the community.
Dyspraxia, also known as Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), is a neurodevelopmental difference that affects how a child plans, organises and carries out movements. It is not linked to intelligence, but it can significantly affect everyday activities and participation.
Children with dyspraxia may find tasks involving coordination, balance and fine motor control more difficult. This can include handwriting, dressing, using cutlery, riding a bike or managing physical activities at school. Many children also experience difficulties with motor planning, where they know what they want to do but struggle to sequence the movements smoothly.
Dyspraxia can also impact confidence, emotional wellbeing and a child’s experience of school and social situations. At OT4me, we focus on understanding how dyspraxia affects daily life and identifying practical support that helps children participate, build confidence and thrive.
What is Dyspraxia?
What's Included
To help you feel prepared and informed, here is a clear overview of what is included in our dyspraxia assessment package.
Comprehensive Dyspraxia Assessment
Your child receives a comprehensive dyspraxia (developmental coordination disorder) assessment delivered by our specialist occupational therapy team. This includes gathering developmental history, using standardised motor coordination tools, assessing sensory processing and observing functional tasks at home and school to build a rounded understanding of their motor planning and coordination.
Comprehensive Diagnostic Report
You receive a clear diagnostic report that outlines findings, strengths, areas of need and the functional impact on daily life. It is accepted by schools, professionals and local authorities, helping families access appropriate support with confidence.
1:1 Feedback Session
Once the dyspraxia assessment is complete, you are invited to a dedicated feedback session where we explore the results at a calm, manageable pace. This gives you space to ask questions and understand what the findings mean for your child and family, and discuss practical strategies to support coordination and participation.
Post Diagnosis Workshops
Families are offered practical workshops designed to support life after diagnosis. These cover sensory regulation, emotional wellbeing, school based approaches and neurodiversity affirming strategies to help you make meaningful changes in daily life.
Why Choose OT4me
Your child is supported by a team of Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and Specialist OTs. Together we bring a rounded, evidence informed understanding of development, communication, sensory needs and daily participation, ensuring diagnostic decisions are robust and aligned with NICE guidance.
Our recommendations focus on everyday life. You receive a clear diagnostic report, a 1:1 feedback session and access to post diagnosis workshops that explore sensory regulation, emotional wellbeing and school based strategies. Everything is designed to help your child thrive at home, in school and in the wider community.
