We have some useful tips for children with SI challenges for trick or treating or going to Halloween parties.
- Try reading them a social story before the event- helping them understand what is going to happen
- Try wearing tight clothing i.e. tights or cycling shorts, Lycra skins for football and put under dress up clothes.
- Take a torch
- If the child has ASC or other difficulties a blue bucket can inform others
- Once home do some relaxation activities to help with sleep. Squash underneath a big therapy ball; offer a massage, hot bath, use lavender bubble bath, story time.
But most of all have fun. Don’t feel the pressure to participate; your child can always stay in and do Halloween crafts at home or handout sweets to those knocking!
